Several events have been canceled and institutions have temporarily closed due to Covid-19 concerns.

Lake County Schools

Schools have announced they will not be open until April 1. The announcement came following a statement from Governor Bill Lee on Monday urging all schools to close. Schools statewide are expected to close by Friday, March 20 and remain closed until March 31. Lake County Schools were on spring break this week.

Superintendent Sherry Darnell spoke at the Lake County Commission meeting Monday night. She informed commissioners that the maintenance and custodial staff are deep cleaning schools and busses.

The schools will be providing meals for students twice each day, beginning March 23. Lake County Schools released the following information:

“Families may pick up food at the location that is most convenient for them regardless of grade. Each day we will provide lunch for that day and breakfast for the following day, except on Monday, March 23rd, when we will provide students with two breakfasts (one for Monday and one for Tuesday) and one lunch.

“Guidelines for picking up food:
1. Food is to go only, no eating on site.
2. Pick up at LCHS will be in front of the gym.
3. Pick up at LK will be in front of the main entrance to the office.
4. When picking up food you will be asked to provide the names of the students you are picking up food for.

“The pick-up times are as follows:
Monday: March 23rd
10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon
Tuesday, March 24 until further notice
11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon”
