Abigail’s Thanksgiving Turkey

1 (10-18 lb.) turkey
1 apple, cut in half
1 onion, cut if half
1 stick oleo
2 ribs of celery
Preheat oven to 400 degrees, Wash and dry thawed turkey.
Salt inside and out. Fill cavity with apple, onion, celery and 1/2 stick of oleo. Rub remaining oleo on outside of turkey. Place turkey on rack, breast side up, in roasting pan. Add 1 quart hot water. Cover with well-fitting lid and bake one hour. Turn off oven and “do not” open oven for 8 hours. Bake turkey at night and next morning it will be beautifully browned with plenty of broth for dressing.

Meatball Stew

2 lb. ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
1 can beef gravy
1 c. dried potatoes
Salt and pepper to taste
1 can cream of mushroom
shoup
1 c. diced carrots
1 c. diced celery
Make small meatballs and brown in skillet, drain. Add soup, gravy, onion, carrots, potatoes and celery. Cook on low heat until done.
