Part of owning your own place is ensuring that it remains a healthy and clean environment for you to live in. Regular cleanings become just another part of our routine and, even though we don’t always like it, we know it’s necessary for maintaining our quality of life. However, when we clean our homes, it’s common to cover a few select hotspots that we know to be dirty and forget about some of the other places. These harder-to-reach places and forgotten nooks and crannies need our attention just like any other part of the home. To get the most out of your weekly chores, make sure you think about these things you often forget to clean or sanitize.

Picture Frames

Though picture frames rarely come into direct contact with dirty hands or surfaces, they can collect a lot of dust, which diminishes the appearance of your beautiful pictures. As such, it’s best to dust them off at least every other week or more with a gentile duster or cloth. Keep in mind, as well, that you may need to dust them more often, depending on how much dust tends to circulate in your home.

Shower Curtain Liner

Your shower curtain liners are also easy to overlook when it comes time to clean. While these materials often look fine on the surface, months of water and grime can cause mold or mildew to grow on them. This can give them a pungent odor and make them just generally unhealthy to be around. Though you can’t completely prevent this from occurring, you can slow the process by applying the occasional bathtub cleaner to the plastic liner.

Ceiling Fans

It’s amazing how much dirt and dust you can miss just by forgetting to look up. Ceiling fans collect the bulk of the dust and debris that flow through your ventilation shafts, so even though they might not look too dirty from the bottom, there’s often a lot to clean along the tops of their blades. For the most effective level of preventative maintenance, run a damp cloth or dry duster over each fan blade every couple of weeks.

Lighting Pendants

Another thing you probably often forget to clean or sanitize around the home is your suspended lighting pendants. Like your ceiling fans, these fixtures are the most available for dirt and dust from your vents to land on. This accumulation makes them look washed out and grungy when they should be radiating light. Fortunately, while learning how to maintain your pendant lights is a bit of a process, you won’t need to clean them as often as other parts of the home.
