WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the House of Representatives passed the Family and Small Business Taxpayer Protection Act. This legislation will block the Biden Administration from unleashing 87,000 new Internal Revenue Service (IRS) agents to target families and small businesses as part of their unprecedented increase in IRS audits.

Congressman David Kustoff (TN-08) is an original cosponsor of this legislation and spoke on the floor of the House of Representatives in favor of it.

I rise today in support of the Family and Small Business Taxpayer Protection Act.

This new Republican majority is focused on protecting taxpayers and small businesses from government overreach and abuse.

Blocking the Biden Administration from unleashing 87,000 new IRS agents on taxpayers is a crucial first step towards fulling our Commitment to America.

This legislation will prohibit the IRS from using new funds to target lower to middle-class families and small businesses with more burdensome and intrusive audits.

As households grapple with a struggling economy, the last thing they need is more harassment from the supercharged IRS.

Republicans are unified in our effort to bring economic relief to Americans, not more government overreach and hardship.

I urge my colleagues to support this legislation and stop this Administration’s weaponization of the IRS.

Thank you.

Background:
In their Inflation Reduction Act, Democrats voted to authorize $80 billion for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to hire 87,000 new agents to target U.S. taxpayers. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) confirmed that this will lead to more audits and enforcement measures for households making less than $400,000. The Family and Small Business Taxpayer Protection Act will rescind all new IRS funding from targeting lower to middle-class families and small businesses. Ultimately, the IRS should be focused on providing quality service to taxpayers, not targeting them.
