The Tennessee Treasury had more than $1.2 billion in property turned over from businesses and organizations that were unable to locate who the money belongs to in the state.
There are currently 4,766 properties available for Lake County residents to be claimed, totaling $327,691.96. During the last fiscal year, the Division reconnected $3,933.89 through 20 claims in the county.
Statewide, there were 50,345 claims totaling $57.6 million returned to Tennessee residents.
The Unclaimed Property Division is a consumer protection program of the State Treasury to reconnect people with missing property.
People can visit ClaimIt-TN.gov to see if they have unclaimed property. The online database has all unclaimed property listed since the inception of the program. The Division is encouraging people to search using common misspellings of their name and previous addresses, in addition to current, accurate information.
There is no time limit or fee to claim missing property. It is held for the rightful owner or their legal beneficiaries until it is claimed.
