5 Things You Should Regularly Check on Your Car

You likely want to get as much as you possibly can out of your vehicle. However, you don’t have to be a mechanic or have extensive technical knowledge to know that there are a few things you should regularly check on your car to ensure everything is in proper working order. Consider the areas of your car that you should keep an eye on.

Oil Level

You can always pop the hood and check the oil to see if it’s at an adequate level. If your vehicle doesn’t have enough oil, then the moving parts of your engine won’t get proper lubrication and will wear down. Of course, you can always top off the oil in your car, or you could bring your car to a mechanic for a professional oil change.

Bumpers

Your car’s bumpers help protect you from collision damage, which is why you should periodically inspect them. There may be some inherent risks to driving with a damaged bumper that put you and your vehicle at risk. If you notice any extensive bumper damage, you may need to take your vehicle to a body shop.

Taillights

One thing you should regularly check on your car is the taillights. These can be tricky sometimes because taillights are typically only on when you’re in the car and can’t see them. Every now and then, have a friend or neighbor come over to help you check that your brake and taillights are all working. Not only is this for your safety, but it can help you avoid being pulled over by the police for something so small.

Tires

No car gets very far without tires, so it’s always a smart idea to check how your vehicle’s tires are doing. Ideally, you want to check both the depth of the treads to ensure they’re not too worn down and make sure that your tire pressure is at a stable level. Keeping your tires in good shape means that you can keep driving safely.

Air Filter

The air filter’s job is to collect dirt and dust and help keep them out of your engine. However, the more it collects, the harder it gets for air to pass through, which can reduce your fuel efficiency and force your engine to work harder. Cleaning or replacing the air filter is a quick and easy process that may greatly help your car in the long run.
