tnACHIEVES still in need of volunteer mentors

Posted

With the deadline approaching on November 15, 2024, tnAchieves is urgently seeking 950 additional volunteer mentors to meet student demand. Several counties in Northwest Tennessee are still in need of mentors to help support local students in their pursuit of higher education.
As of now, the following counties have outstanding needs:
Carroll Co.: 6 mentors
Crockett Co.: 9 mentors
Dyer Co.: 2 mentors
Gibson Co.: 32 mentors
Henry Co.: 13 mentors
Lake Co.: 2 mentors

Volunteer mentors play a vital role in guiding students through the college process, offering encouragement, advice, and exposure to local career opportunities. Mentors support first-generation and low-income students by helping them navigate important college deadlines and providing much-needed encouragement. The time commitment is small, with mentors dedicating about one hour per month.
“tnAchieves mentoring offers the opportunity to make an impact that goes beyond an individual student,” said Tyler Ford, tnAchieves Vice President of External Partnerships. “Mentors play an important part in ensuring that first-generation, low-income students have the support necessary to begin their college careers. In doing so, mentors break down barriers for students and open doors to high-paying, in-demand careers.”
Mentors are not required to have an extensive background in education; tnAchieves provides all necessary training and resources. Mentors typically work with 2-3 students, meeting them at their high schools in December, January, or February. Volunteers can choose which county and high school they would like to serve.

tnAchieves is a privately funded scholarship and mentoring program that aims to provide all Tennessee students with the opportunity to earn a post-secondary degree. For further information, contact Tyler Ford at (309) 945-3446 or via email at tyler@tnAchieves.org.
